Pikachu Sweets by Pokemon Cafe

In Ikebukuro, Tokyo

Pikachu sweets sign

Pikachu Sweets is a Pokemon-themed specialty sweets and drinks takeout stand operated by the Pokemon Cafe. It's located right next to the Pokemon Center Mega Tokyo, one of the largest Pokemon Centers in Japan, in Sunshine City, Ikeburo. The stand sells various limited-time-only snacks and beverages and is decorated in cute, pastel, pokemon-themed designs.

My experience

Pikachu sweets

Pikachu sweets art & staff uniform

We visited the cafe on a weekend so it was quite crowded. We had to wait around 30 minutes in line! The cafe decorations are absolutely adorable though. They had pikachu foot prints on the ground and the staff wore pikachu hats and tails! The menu often changes, but when we were there, we ordered the pikachu hot milk tea, the poltergeist aroma therapy milk tea, the scarlet/violet starter pokeffle and the pikachu pokeffle.

Potergeist teapot

Because we ordered the poltergeist tea, we got a chance to experience pouring from the special poltergeist teapot! Initially nothing comes out when turning it over, so the staff will cutely tell you that potergeist is quite shy so it needs some encouragement. They will ask you to rub potergeist till the tea comes out. Overall the experience is very adorable! Such a cute concept!

Pikachu Hot Milk Tea & Poltergeist Aroma Therapy Milk Tea

The pikachu hot milk tea was good! It tasted like a regular warm tea latte with whipped cream. I wasn't a huge fan of the poltergeist aroma therapy milk tea (even though the presentation was so cute)! I didn't really enjoy the grape/milk/tea combination. I think if it was a different fruity flavor like peach or apple it would've been better, but that's probably just a personal preference!

Pokeffles

The pikachu pokeffle was a waffle covered in colored white chocolate (on the ears) and drizzled in honey. This was actually really yummy! The honey tasted good with the soft, thin waffle. The paldean starter pokeffle was similar to the pikachu pokeffle, only it was sprinkled with powdered sugar instead of honey. Honestly I think I prefer the honey one, because the waffle is a bit dry without any sort of syrup.

Garbador trashcan

Overall I really loved the art style of the pokemon in the shop. The pastel pokemon are so cute and I feel like I haven't seen this style a lot in official pokemon merchandising. They even had a garbador trashcan. So creative! They also had a few standing tables; however, I think because we went at such a busy time, it was only used as a waiting area. You had to eat and drink outside of the cafe.

Right next to Pikachu Sweets is the Mega Pokemon Center, and in between the two shops, they have many pokemon statues decorating the area! Definitely a great place to visit if you're a big pokemon fan!
