Nabana no Sato

in Kuwana, Mie

Light tunnel

Nabana no sato is a beautiful flower/theme park in Mie. It is known for its various flower fields in the spring and summer and for its illuminations in the fall and winter. The park is separated into different areas dedicated to the flowers that bloom throughout the year. There are over 12,000 varieties in the park! It boasts one of the largest flower gardens in Japan. Its illumination show also has a different theme every year ranging from the aurora borealis to cherry blossoms to Mount Fuji. It has the longest running illumination displays in Japan that goes from October to June.

My Experience

Kawazuzakura

We visited Nabana no sato as a last minute stop on our Mie trip. We were only able to spend under an hour at the park during night, but it was so beautiful and even larger than I imagined. We definitely could've spent hours at the park but we unfortunately had a time limit and needed to catch our train back to Tokyo. We went here by car but they do have a bus you can catch from Nagoya station that takes about 30 minutes!

Kawazuzakura

The park tickets are a little pricey for a flower park but it's definitely worth it considering how massive the park is. I do wish we had a chance to visit during the day as well because I'm sure the flower gardens would be even more beautiful! The kawazuzakura were still in bloom when we visited. I was surprised as the season for kawazuzakura already peaked in most of Kanto, but the flowers bloom slightly later here due to the colder weather. It seems the kawazuzakura bloom in late February to late Match here. They had the kawazuzakura beautifully illuminated throughout the park surrounding the lake. I believe the park has over 300 trees.

plum garden

They also had a small plum garden with weeping plum trees. It was so beautifully lit at night and they had small wooden paths winding through the garden. There are over 330 weeping plum trees of various pinks, whites, and reds, with some trees being over 140 years old. It seriously reminded me of a scene from a fairy tale! Aside from kawazuzakura, and plum blossoms, they also had some tulips in bloom in the Hanahiroba flower garden, which is Japan's largest flower garden! We were there during night, but I'm sure it looks even more stunning during the day. The park is also known for its begonia garden which blooms all year around in their green house, but unfortunately we didn't have time to walk through!

illumination

Throughout the park, they have various illuminations displays. The park is most famous for its light tunnel and has won numerous illumination awards. The light tunnel is a 200 meter long tunnel featuring thousands of flower shaped LED lights. It's so beautiful walking through the tunnel at night. Aside from the light tunnel there is also a smaller 100 meter flower and grass (nemophila and marigold) tunnel. I actually think this may be even more beautiful than the light tunnel just because the tunnel is covered in colorful flowers that change from a vibrate yellow orange to a deep blue. At the end of the tunnel is a massive light show. The themes change every year, but this year it is the golden pyramids. The display is so large and stunning and Aladdin and the Genie from Disney also make an appearance on the pyramids!
