Harumeki Cherry Blossoms in Ichinoseki Harane

in Minamiashigara

Ichinoseki Harane

Harumekizakura are a relatively new early blooming cherry blossom that was created just a couple decades ago. It blooms a little earlier than the common variety of cherry blossoms and is found primarily in Minamiashigara city. It usually blooms in the middle of March and is known for its light pink color and full blossoms. Over 100 trees line the side of the hill at Ichinoseki Harane.

My Experience

Ichinoseki Harane

We visited Minamiashigara this past weekend. We were debating whether to go because the weather was not great, but we decided to visit anyway since the flowers were in full bloom! There are various places in Minamiashigara city with harumeki cherry blossoms, but we only had time to visit Ichinoseki Harane. It took us about 2 and a half hours to get to the area from Tokyo. We took a bus from Shin-matsuda station and then walked about 15 minutes to the viewing area from the bus stop.

Ichinoseki Harane

Aside from the rain, the cherry blossoms were very pretty! They were in full bloom and completely covering the hill. We first viewed them from the overpass before walking down near the road. It takes maybe 15 - 20 minutes to walk down the road where the cherry blossoms are, so the actual area itself isn't that large. We spent maybe about an hour walking down the road and back before going home. There is also a small canal running next to the hill as well. Unfortunately it was raining quite hard the day we went, so a lot of the sakura were hanging down due to the rain. It probably also wasn't that crowded probably due to the weather. I'm sure the view is even prettier on a sunny day though!
