Cherry Blossoms at Asa River

in Mine City, Yamaguchi

The cherry blossoms at Asa River in Mine City were in full bloom this past weekend! Mine City is a small city located in Yamaguchi prefecture with a population of less than 25,000. The Asa River flows from the north to the central area. There are about 200 cherry blossom trees that line the river and it is a popular cherry blossom viewing spot during the spring.

My Experience

We arrived at Mine City in the afternoon. Unfortunately it was quite cloudy the day we visited, but the cherry blossoms were in full bloom! I'm sure it would've been even more picturesque on a sunny day. We came by car and luckily there was free parking near the river. The river area wasn't crowded at all. There were a couple families picnicking in certain areas, but most people were just walking around the riverbank or on the bridges. The views from walking near the river banks and walking above on the streets were equally beautiful! There were also benches on the riverbank where people were also chatting and eating. It took us maybe about an hour to walk up and down the area of the river lined with cherry blossoms.

The city itself is very peaceful! It was very soothing walking under the cherry blossom trees as there wasn't a crowd like there usually is in major cities. It was mainly locals with their families enjoying the scenery. There was also a small stage area and a few food trucks lined up closer to Minesakura park. We bought some yakisoba and dango! We didn't bring any mats though, so we just sat on the large stairs facing the river along with the others. There were many young children running around the park. Overall the city was very beautiful and serene and was a great place to enjoy the cherry blossoms!
